Video Cards
I am presently contacting several video card companies to do reviews on their cards. Below you will see a link to each one. My primary objective is to test for folding. Folding is a program that really stresses a video card and will not allow any mistakes in calculations. The software is written such that it tests itself and will stop folding if there is the slightest problem. These are called Early Unit Ends or EUE's in the folding world. Since it stresses the card to its fullest and double and triple checks itself it is a great way to test these cards accurately.
I am starting with the AGP cards and will continue to PCIe cards in the near future.
Well as you can see Sapphire is the only company I reviewed. I emailed ATI and several others but never got any mail back from anyone. Ok so I will just concentrate on Sapphire products.
Update 7/26/2010
Well as you can see I didnt get too far with the AGP cards. The X1950 Pro was a great card and I got a lot of testing done with it and a fun project. But alas it has become obsolete. I changed last year to a dual core motherboard that has 3 PCIe slots it in. Mostly so I could put multiple video cards in and increase my folding points per day. I put twin Geforce 9800GTX+'s in her and she has really put out the work. Here is a link to some pics and some info for these cards.
My next project is going to be upgrading to the new GTX460 cards. I plan on contacting ASUS for a couple of their cards as I feel they have the best 460 card on the market. I will expand on that in the following article/review. Stay tuned!
Update 12/3/2010
I never could get a reply from ASUS, guess they go off my list as good vendors. Emailed them twice and never even got a response. Ok no problem. I finally bought an EVGA GXT460 768 and am tickled to death with it. See the below link for details.
EVGA GTX460/768 and Palit GTX460 1GB
Update 12/19/2010
I bought another 460 card yesterday, or was it the day before. In any case now I have a Palit GTX460 1gb card to install in the system. My plan is to remove the remaining 9800GTX+ and install the 460 in its place. Beforehand though I want to do some tests on power consumption. I didn't do it when I first installed the EVGA card so now is a good time to take a look at wattages. See the above link as I am just going to add this Palit card to it.
